Overview

More than 2 million wildebeests, gazelles and zebras migrate from Serengeti (Tanzania) ecosystem to Maasai Mara National reserve in Kenya. The reason behind this migration is because wildebeests tend to move from dry area to greener and fertile lands searching of pasture. The great migration happens in Ndutu area (southern part of Serengeti) where the wildebeests battle the angry predatorsthatcall the river home.

The most desirable time to see the great wildebeest migration in Serengeti is in July to October. In December to March, one can also experience the great migration across the Ndutu area which is considered to be within Ngorongoro Conservation area. In February, it is certain to see a large herd of wildebeests moving together because it is the calving season of the year.
