9 Days Magical Tanzania Safari Itinerary

Day 1

Arusha, Tanzania

Our Tanzania safari begins at Kilimanjaro Airport near Arusha, with a transfer from the airport to our secluded lodge in the forested foothills of Mount Meru. Wander the lush gardens that offer a refreshing respite after long travels, relax by the pool, indulge in a massage in the open-air yurt, or enjoy the view of the rolling lawn from your private veranda before our welcome dinner this evening

Day 2 - 3

Lake Natron

Lake Natron is a mineral-rich soda lake in northern Tanzania, at the border with Kenya. It’s a breeding ground for hundreds of thousands of lesser flamingos, despite the highly alkaline state of the striking red waters. It sits below Ol Doinyo Lengai, a soaring active volcano in the Rift Valley. Trails lead from the lake to the Engero Sero waterfalls, which flow over craggy rocks into a natural pool.

The following activities can be done around this area: visit an authentic maasai village, a walk to Lake Natron itself, a beautiful view of the mountain Oldoinyo Lengai, Climb Oldoinyo Lengai{ Not for everybody and on your own risk}, walk to the waterfallsa{Not for everybody and on your own risk}, bird watching{if you are lucky you can see thousands of flamingoes}.

Day 4

Lake Natron – Hhando Coffee Lodge

Today will our last day at this marvelous place and after breakfast, we will depart the Lake Natron Game Controlled Area with game en route to the border of Ngorongoro Crater at Karatu with a stop at Lake Manyara Viewpoint

Day 5

The Empakaai Crater - Ngorongoro Crater Highlands

A trek in these areas is guaranteed to give you an amazing experience. Safari for the adventurous trekkers. The Empakaai Crater is a collapsed volcanic caldera which is 300 meters high and has a width of 6 km. The Crater is filled with a deep alkaline lake which occupies about 75% of the Crater’s floor and is about 85 meters deep. You can see Oldonio Lengai, Mount Kilimanjaro and the Great Rift Valley from the Crater’s rim.
Walking down the crater you can also have magnificent view of the Mount Lengai.

The Crater’s rim offers two special campsites. The Empakaai Crater and the Olmoti Crater have similar vegetation and bird-life but the Empakaai Crater is marvelous for wildlife. Among the animals living in this area are: the Bearded Vulture, the Augur Buzzard, blue Monkeys, Bushbuck, water bucks and buffaloes.

Day 6

Ngorongoro Crater Tour

At morning’s first light, board 4×4 safari vehicles to descend the steep wall of the world’s largest unbroken volcanic caldera.
Here, we find Africa’s densest concentration of wildlife, attracted to the constant water present on the 100-square-mile crater floor.
Some 25,000 animals reside in the crater year-round, a veritable Eden of creatures thriving within an ecosystem of abundant resources. Among a multitude of species, look for zebra, wildebeest, gazelle and eland, and the lion and hyena that prey upon them. We’re also likely to see elephant and buffalo, and if we are exceptionally fortunate, we may spot an endangered black rhinoceros.

Flocks of pink flamingos cover the soda lakes, while large land birds like ostrich and Kori bustard roam the grassy plain. Spend a full day exploring the crater, with a picnic lunch along the way. We exit the crater this afternoon and drive to the Lodge, a short distance away in the Ngorongoro Highlands. Enjoy a chance to relax at this beautiful lodge, and surrounded by working coffee, flower and vegetable plantations.

Day 7 - 9

Serengeti National Park Central/Southern/Arusha

The Serengeti is legendary. Here on Tanzania’s Great Plains, herds of wildebeest traverse the savanna in enormous numbers,
while thousands of antelope and gazelle are ever-present. Giraffes lope among the acacia trees, while the big cats race after prey. You stay amidst it all at your intimate tented camp in a remote sector of the park. The mobile tents ensure that you experience all the natural wonder of this fabled setting, rather than crowded tourist centers. It also allows you to follow the herds, as the camp is moved seasonally to follow the migration. Your accommodations are steeped in the safari atmosphere of yesteryear, yet they offer surprising luxury and comfort in an authentically rustic setting.

Each morning, you’ll set out in a custom-designed 4×4 safari vehicle, keeping you close to the elements with broad windows and rooftop hatches that open for photo opportunities and wildlife viewing. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the bush, or return to camp for an al fresco meal, depending on how the morning’s sightseeing unfolds. After a chance to relax midday, return to your vehicle for another wildlife drive later this afternoon in search of the migrating herds on the move as well as abundant resident wildlife.
