Tarangire National Park is the 6th largest National Park in Tanzania covering an area of 2600 square Kilometers. Tarangire is most popular for its large Elephant herds and the mini-wildlife migration that takes place during the dry season which sees about 250,000 animals enter the Park. LOCATION: Tarangire Park lies between the meadows of Masai steppe to the southeast and the lakes of the Great Rift Valley to the north and West. Within the northern part of Tarangire is the permanent River Tarangire also known as the life-line of the park particularly in the dry season when most of the region is totally dry. This attracts a significant number of animals to Tarangire. WILDLIFE: Tarangire national Park is renowned for its large herds of Elephants, but also boasts a diverse array of wildlife Including Lions, Leopards, Zebras, and various bird species including Raptors, Starlings, Weavers and many more. GETTING TO TARANGIRE: From Arusha, Tarangire is located at a distance of about 120kms which is in the southeast of Manyara National Park. Arusha to Manyara road takes you to Tarangire Park. From Arusha, drive towards Babati. When you reach the first big Junction with a tarmac road that turns left towards Manyara and Ngorongoro, you continue straight for 25km where you will see a big poster for Tarangire. Drive through the small village of Minjingu then turn left towards Tarangire Park. You can also fly to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) which is located 46kms from Arusha. Or you can fly from Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) then arrange for a domestic flight to Arusha Airport. Additionally, charter flights from Arusha Airport are available to Tarangire/Kuro via manyara. But you can also use Charter Flights from Arusha then to Serengeti and finally to Tarangire. ACCOMMODATIONS: For your Tarangire Holiday accommodation, there is a selection of Safari Lodges and Tented Camps found within the park itself as well as the areas surrounding it.
