Mikumi national park itself is about six (6) hours’ drive from Dar es Salaam, the commercial hub city of Tanzania, with the road journey quite comfortable in a 4*4 jeep or Toyota Alphard vehicles. The journey gives you an authentic view of life and landscapes of Tanzania and Africa in general as you meander through towns such as Kibaha and Morogoro having a road view of life in African rural and peri-urban centres.
As you reach Mikumi region, before even reaching the park entry gates, animals by the road side will announce your arrival. See lots of Zebras, Implalas and Giraffes grazing a few meters away from the road.
With 3,230 square kilometers coverage, Mikumi National Park is a well-established national park in Tanzania’s southern tour circuit. The park is well-known for its population of elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, elands, antelopes, Kudus, wildebeest, and lions. At the Mikumi Hippo pool, you will see not only hippos but crocodiles and birds.
Meet and greet at agreed location in Dar es Salaam at 5:30am. Transfer to Mikumi by road via Morogoro.
Connect African Safaris will drive you from Dar–es- salaam early in the morning straight to Mikumi National Park. The drive will take about 6 hours with a lunch stop at a restaurant in Morogoro Town. Use the drive time to view the village and rural life of Africa from the window of the car. Lunch shall be provided enroute.
Once near Mikumi you will start to see groups of wild animals by the roadside such as Zebras, Giraffe (national symbol), and impalas. On arrival at Mikumi gates you will proceed to enter the park and start with afternoon game drives. Enjoy the game drive experience as you see African elephants, Lions, wild dog, Zebras, Giraffes, Impalas, Hyenas, Buffalos, Wildebeests, the Eland antelope, hartebeest, and other resident small animals. The park also has over 300 species of birds that have been observed.
Late afternoon you will do a game drive with sunset view and watch the animals drink water at the large hippo pool, filled with huge school of hippos. On a warm day, you may sport crocodiles hanging around with their mouths open to avoid overheating.

Start the day with a visit to the nearby Maasai village for a fascinating cultural experience with the popular Maasai tribe of Tanzania. Listen to their stories, view their traditional way of life, and learn how start a fire without using matchbox stick. Return to the lodge in time for breakfast. Afterwards you will go to Mikumi national park for a full day of game drives.
